MELBOURNE CENTRAL

In 1984 the multi-million dollar development of Melbourne's largest city redevelopment is now known as Melbourne Central on the corner of La Trobe and Swanston Streets, Melbourne.

Sebel Townhouse Hotel

In 1981 Essington, as a shareholder with Consolidated Press Holdings and Leighton Holdings in Majura Investments Pty Limited, was runner-up in the shortlist of nine candidates running for Queensland Gold Coast casino licence. In the same year Essington, together with AGC’s Mirvac and Kerry Packer’s Wentworth Holdings, acquired the Sebel Townhouse Hotel in King’s Cross, Sydney.

D2 SITE

Essington led the acquisition of the D2 site at The Rocks, now the Quay Apartments.

MARRIOTT HOTEL

In 1983 Essington’s subsidiary, Tilverton Pty Limited purchased the joint Coal Board site on Pitt Street and Macquarie Place in Sydney and developed those buildings and Customs House Hotel as the new Ramada Hotel, now branded the Marriott Hotel.

CRAIGBURN ESTATE

In 1983 Essington acquired the Chevron Hotel at Potts Point in Sydney then redeveloped it in 1987 as the Nikko Hotel.

During 1985, Essington supported Allain Thompson for the Magnetic Island and Marina Joint Venture.

Residential property developments in 1985 included Gulf Point Marina Estate comprising 600 sites at North Haven Harbour located on the shores of the largest manmade marina in the Southern Hemisphere; Darlington dwellings on the Sturt River, South Australia; Craigburn Estate at Flagstaff Hill, South Australia, which was spoken of as a ‘landmark residential development’ due to the retention of large trees and waterways and subdivisions that fitted with the shape and orientation of the land and received the Civic Trust Award for Town Planning.

SHERATON FIJI

In 1988, Essington purchased Vomo Island.
In 1989 Kindersley House at 20 O’Connell Street, Sydney was acquired by Essington from Hooker Projects as a long-term future development site.
Developments in the 1980s included the tender with EIE for the now Governor Phillip and Macquarie Towers in the Sydney CBD.
In 1990 property developments included Essington negotiating the sale of Sanctuary Cove, Queensland, to EIE.
In 1998 Essington and Angelo Gordon Inc. co-operated with Donald Trump for the sale of the St. Moritz Hotel, New York. Circa 1987 Essington secured 120 Collins Street, Melbourne, for the development of a 265 meter skyscraper, which remained the tallest building in Melbourne until 2006.
